Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

Last week ABC premiered a new television series titled Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I personally had been anticipating this new show. For so long, as a student, I have been complaining about school food. It never was all that tasty and once in high school I broke a baracket while biting into a hamburger bun at lunch. However, it wasn't until I started working at a grocery store that I truly noticed the horrid eating habits this country has gotten itself into. I used to see and smell heavy set people buy frozen pizzas, hot dogs, hungry man dinners, chips, cupcakes, cookies and loads of other junk. I can honestly say, though it's been a year since I've worked there, I hardly ever saw those heavy set people buy any form of fruit or vegetable. When those people would come through my line I could not help but think that they were not the type of people who should be buying that rubbish. Calling it a form of racism or whatever you want but that was the stark truth. Thanks to Jamie Oliver, most of America now thinks the same. Like the show 16 and pregnant, it amazes me that with all the education we now have, scientific education at that, producers can find people to make a reality show based on stastics. My question to you is, as an American are you happy with the fact that other countries will only see America as a fat and lazy nation?

Misunderstood Music

As of late, and mainly due to her new music video, Lady GaGa has seemed to push people over the edge. The majority of what I've read is all about how "weird" she is. Usually I, or rather the old me, would agree. See the old me would find something weird because I didn't understand or allow myself to understand whatever it was I found weird. Thankfully I've grown and matured into a more open and understanding person. The new me has allowed myself to be more accepting of ideas and concepts. With that being said I find myself on another level of appreciation for certain artists in the music industry. This new level has led me to do a more thorough career background check on some people and what I found really astounds me. Back in the 70s and 80s, many well respected industry insiders thought artists like David Bowie, Madonna, Prince, Elton John and Freddie Mercury, to name a few, were weird. Too weird to have their music accepted by the masses, if one can believe that. I've grown up on that music and I always thought those people were always accepted by the way I hear people talk about them. However, most insiders believed each artist's brand of music would sell only to a certain crowd and therefore did not want to take a risk with then. The only person who had a shot was probably Freddie Mercury because he had the rest of Queen, a rock and roll band that fit the mainstream criteria of that day. Flash forward to today and every single one of those mentioned are heralded for being visionaries and pioneers of their day vnow we have these great up and comers who are pushing boundaries in an eerily similar way as those in the past did. Now those same people who grew up listening to Madonna, Prince, Bowie and others, are now running the record labels and are parents of teenagers. Teenagers who are keen to enjoy the new artists because they push the boundaries. But oh no kids, mom and dad don't like this. Mom and Dad don't want you dancing to "Poker Face" but it's okay for them to dance to "She Bop" and "Cherry Pie" by Cyndi Lauper and Warrent respectively. I understand shielding young children from certain sights and sounds, but to have grown up with Madonna's music and to say Lady GaGa is too muh, is a bit hypocritical.

Health Care Reform

This health care reform debate is P-ing me off. Illegal immigrants already have free Health Care. Because they don't have any, Health Care facilities pay out of pocket & jack up prices to offset their deficit! So people need to stop using that as an excuse.

Baby Killer

Recently Jon Venables was brought back to prison under undisclosed charges. For those who dont know his name, when he was 10 years old he and a friend brutally murdered a 2 year old boy. Both boys were sent to places of incarciration. When released they were given new identities as a way to start life over and to move on from the past.  I have to say I think some people cannot be reformed. In the cases of feral children, not one child has been transformed into a "normal functioning member of society." Its been proven that minds absorb the most information between the ages of 3-6 so unless we catch every potential criminal during that time period, unfortunately things will remain the same. Of course I'm speaking generally but pre-meditated murderers should not be let out. They knew what they were doing and the knew the seriousness of their actions. They took a human life regardless of what age they were when they did it. Those two boys knew right from wrong and didn't care so why should we? They turned their back on the rules so the thought of a second chance never should have happened.

Politically Correct

Couple of things to talk about today. First off today is Groundhog's Day, a stupid tradition but a tradition nonetheless. I honestly find it so funny people still go by the Groundhog. Notice the equinox is always printed on a calendar before Feb 2? Summer always gets here at the same time, regardless if the little shit sees his/her shadow or not. Yes it sucks having to deal with cold temperatures that chill one right to the bone, but, considering the devastating earthquake that just happened the devastating tsunami that hit a few years ago, we've got it pretty good. Secondly, I am honestly sick and tired of living in such a politically correct society. And I'm not just talking about America, I'm talking about Globally. If you've ever read my blog before, or if you scroll down, you'll see I watch a show in England called "Loose Women". On the show they discuss articles that generally effect women in any such way. On today's show they discussed children and risks. Recently there was a book written describing how children need to take more risks such as glueing fingers together, jumping from ropes into a pond, and driving a car with parental supervision. In taking these risks, the author explains how learning lessons from such risks, children are better prepared, as adults, to assess the good and bad when making a decision. The ladies on the show talked about their childhoods and climbing trees, playing in dirt fields, playing in the street, etc. The topic got me thinking. When I was a child, every Sunday my brother would come over as part of my dad's visitation rights. While waiting, my father would let me and my brother sit on his lap and drive the car. At first all we could do was help him steer, then as we got older we were able to handle the gas and eventually drive the car ourselves. Being that my father was also my soccer coach, he had plenty of cones on hand. He would take those cones out and place them all around the parking lot and set up obstacles for my brother and I to practice. Personally I think that practice completely helped me when it came to getting my permit. Obviously driving in a parking lot is different than being on the road but I was able to hone my ability to manuver and get a feel for a vehicle and how to handle it. In a way, Britney spears did exactly what my father used to let us do, only she started her kids out a little earlier than we. Okay that's an extreme case but a case it is. Social services would be all over my father in today's time if he were caught doing that. It is absolutely ridiculous the things we are limited to doing. Parents can't slap their children when they're out of line for fear it's child abuse, teachers can't defend themselves against unforgiving teenagers for fear it's assult, parents can't take pictures of their babies while giving them a bath because it's child pornography. Really? I mean, really? How can one read that and not think it's retarded? Oh wait, I said retarded, now I'm discriminating against those of special needs. We all need to stop focusing on the ONE person that might be a rapist, abuser, murder, thief, or gang member and start focusing living life and enjoying precious moments.

Chain Emails

Lately the topics on Loose Women haven't been comment worthy in a major way. I still suggest people watch the clips but nothing discussed has made me want to voice my opinion, so this post is going to be different.

Tonight a friend of mine IM'd me telling me about his aunt. She's recently retired and thanks to her new found time, has nothing better to do than send chain emails. Haha oh the things I really want to say about that hobby.... I will say that there are a few chain emails that I find okay. Pictures of animals or pictures of amazing views. Some of the ones where 5 year olds are quoted as saying something can be cute too, but as a general rule I pretty much hate them. What bugs me the most is the fact that, essentially, chain emails are chain letters. Remember those? Yeah how well did those work out? Why would these be any different? Doing those "grab a blank piece of paper and number it 1-10" things and sending it to 10 people then pressing "alt" "ctrl" "square" and "q" isn't going to make the love of your life's name pop up on screen. And forwarding the special "friendship angel" isn't going to make blah blah blah company donate $10 to some young cancer striken patients cause.

The best part is about these emails is when you see them again months later. And you look at who else got it this time and the person you received it from has sent it to all the same people. Really y'all come on now? Let's get serious.

Happy Birthday Melanie C!

So today, January 12 is Melanie C's birthday! She's such an inspiration and not only because she was Sporty Spice and I'm a tomboy. She writes such amazing songs and she really speaks to me with her music! Happy birthday to her!

It really stinks when you're doing a blog and the topic you're doing it on you can't really comment on. That and it gets a little discouraging when you think no one is reading. Whatever.

I actually like the first topic from today's show. Test driving new boobs! I'm actually quite content with what I've got. I know when I have kids I'll get a little bigger but hopefully not too much. I don't think I'd want to be quite as big as Coleen. I really feel for her. Those things looks like they hurt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QtZZ20xAqs

Now this next topic makes me cringe. I absolutely HATE ultimatums! They're childish in every way. To have to deliver an ultimatum makes one seem like a dictator and the one receiving the ultimatum gets left feeling like a child. Also, to push someone into giving an ultimatum makes one look childish. My mom still tries to deliver ultimatums. I guess they're supposed to scare me? I'm 21, how does that make her look? Anyway, everyone on the panel seems to agree that ultimatums are ridiculous and I 100% agree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_CW6S0e9RY

This last topic I really can't talk about. I'm not a mom and won't be for a pretty long time so my opinion really is no good here. So I guess just watch the clip for fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2coQrby0jUU
