Politically Correct

Couple of things to talk about today. First off today is Groundhog's Day, a stupid tradition but a tradition nonetheless. I honestly find it so funny people still go by the Groundhog. Notice the equinox is always printed on a calendar before Feb 2? Summer always gets here at the same time, regardless if the little shit sees his/her shadow or not. Yes it sucks having to deal with cold temperatures that chill one right to the bone, but, considering the devastating earthquake that just happened the devastating tsunami that hit a few years ago, we've got it pretty good. Secondly, I am honestly sick and tired of living in such a politically correct society. And I'm not just talking about America, I'm talking about Globally. If you've ever read my blog before, or if you scroll down, you'll see I watch a show in England called "Loose Women". On the show they discuss articles that generally effect women in any such way. On today's show they discussed children and risks. Recently there was a book written describing how children need to take more risks such as glueing fingers together, jumping from ropes into a pond, and driving a car with parental supervision. In taking these risks, the author explains how learning lessons from such risks, children are better prepared, as adults, to assess the good and bad when making a decision. The ladies on the show talked about their childhoods and climbing trees, playing in dirt fields, playing in the street, etc. The topic got me thinking. When I was a child, every Sunday my brother would come over as part of my dad's visitation rights. While waiting, my father would let me and my brother sit on his lap and drive the car. At first all we could do was help him steer, then as we got older we were able to handle the gas and eventually drive the car ourselves. Being that my father was also my soccer coach, he had plenty of cones on hand. He would take those cones out and place them all around the parking lot and set up obstacles for my brother and I to practice. Personally I think that practice completely helped me when it came to getting my permit. Obviously driving in a parking lot is different than being on the road but I was able to hone my ability to manuver and get a feel for a vehicle and how to handle it. In a way, Britney spears did exactly what my father used to let us do, only she started her kids out a little earlier than we. Okay that's an extreme case but a case it is. Social services would be all over my father in today's time if he were caught doing that. It is absolutely ridiculous the things we are limited to doing. Parents can't slap their children when they're out of line for fear it's child abuse, teachers can't defend themselves against unforgiving teenagers for fear it's assult, parents can't take pictures of their babies while giving them a bath because it's child pornography. Really? I mean, really? How can one read that and not think it's retarded? Oh wait, I said retarded, now I'm discriminating against those of special needs. We all need to stop focusing on the ONE person that might be a rapist, abuser, murder, thief, or gang member and start focusing living life and enjoying precious moments.
